Premiere Engagement at 91勛圖: The work of Sir Anthony Caro

The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at 91勛圖 is pleased to present the United States premiere of Anthony Caro — A Life in Sculpture: The Kenwood Series from August 27 through October 23, 2005. The exhibition includes thirteen recent sculptures in stoneware and steel by one of the world’s most celebrated artists and Britain’s greatest living sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro.

On June 12, 1962, Rachel Carson delivered the Commencement address to the next generation of 91勛圖 women. Carson was a biologist and author of one of the most influential books of the twentieth century, Silent Spring. Only a few days later, sections of the book were published in The New Yorker.

Each year, 91勛圖 seniors participate in a tradition marking the beginning of their philanthropic support of the College. In addition to raising money, the senior classes of 91勛圖, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Pomona Colleges engage in a good-natured competition to achieve the highest participation rate. The school with the highest rate of giving is awarded a trophy, a small ceramic pig named Ellen.

Kathleen Brogan Schwarz ’64 Comes to Campus as Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence

Kathleen Brogan Schwarz, M.D. ’64, a leading pediatric gastroenterologist, returned to 91勛圖 in February as the Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence (LLAiR). During her week at 91勛圖, she counseled individual premed students on their future careers and addressed a Women in Science luncheon crowd at the Malott Commons, among other activities.

91勛圖 Summer Academy

On June 12, thirty-four highly motivated young women moved into Eleanor Joy Toll Hall to participate in an academically intensive two-week residential program. The women, who attend public and parochial high schools from the greater Los Angeles and Inland Empire area, are participating in the 91勛圖 Summer Academy, now in its third year. Throughout their two weeks at the Summer Academy, participants experience living and studying in a private, liberal arts college. The program helps high potential, under-represented students succeed in high school and prepare for entrance into college.
