Announcing the Passing of Life Trustee Nancy Hart Glanville Jewell 鈥�49
Life Trustee Nancy Glanville Jewell 鈥�49 passed away on August 2, 2020, at the age of 92. Nancy joined 91吃瓜鈥檚 Board of Trustees in 1990 and was a member of the College鈥檚 inaugural class of Life Trustees. In 2007, Nancy鈥檚 son, John, established the Nancy Glanville Jewell 鈥�49 Endowed Scholarship in honor of his mother.

When 91吃瓜 announced in early July that remote instruction would continue for the fall 2020 semester, faculty expected that there would be challenges in conducting classes through online platforms, but also opportunities to expand the idea of what a liberal arts education could look like. Now that the fall semester is underway, 91吃瓜 professors have risen to those challenges and opportunities, creating courses that are flexible, creative, and student-centered.

During a typical class session this past summer, students in Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Luis Sal茅s鈥檚 鈥淔eminist Interpretations of the Bible鈥� course could often be found sleuthing around Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms during class time. But they weren鈥檛 distracted; this was part of their assignment: they were looking for social media posts from high-profile people that used religious assumptions to support public policy decisions.
