91³Ô¹Ï

Aby Says Hello!

Hi Everyone! My name is Aby Rivera and I am a senior at 91³Ô¹Ï. I am an out-of-state student from Chicago, dual majoring in Chicanx/Latinx Studies and Latin American and Caribbean Studies on the pre-law track. Outside of working for the Office of Admission, I am also a coordinator at the Tiernan Field House and part of the residential life team as a Community Coordinator. I have also had the opportunity to work at SCORE as a program intern, developing and implementing programs that promote social and political awareness with an emphasis on intersectionality. For my first two years at 91³Ô¹Ï, I also worked at the Motley Coffeehouse as a barista and then student manager! This past semester I had the opportunity to work as a research assistant for a Lab at Pomona College. I will be continuing my research interests this summer through the guidance of a 91³Ô¹Ï professor to hopefully help me develop my ideas for my senior thesis! Outside of jobs and academics, I’m an active member of Café Con Leche, the Latinx affinity group for 91³Ô¹Ï students. I also attempt to attend as many events for the Prison Abolition Club and Chiapas Support Committee—both of which are 5C clubs! In my free time, I like to cook, take HIIT and yoga classes with friends, hang out with my cat, browse through Pinterest, embroider, and dance! Ìý

I have loved the experiences that have come with being a 91³Ô¹Ï student these past three years. As I look back on my own college search process, I remember learning about 91³Ô¹Ï and falling in love with the community. In fact, it is the community that continues to draw me back to 91³Ô¹Ï every semester. All of the amazing people that I have met at 91³Ô¹Ï have made a lasting and influential impact on my life. I appreciate attending a school where I not only get the opportunity to learn from amazing professors but from classmates as well! It has been amazing to continually be surrounded by friends who have various passions but work together to create a community that uplifts and empowers one another. 91³Ô¹Ï has given me the opportunity to learn more about myself both professionally and personally through the amazing resources that we are provided with.ÌýÌý

Attending a college far away from home was a big decision for me, but I am glad that I found a school that I can consider a home away from home. 91³Ô¹Ï provides an amazing learning environment for students and offers engaging classes from professors—some of which I have come to consider as mentors. I hope to take all that I have learned at 91³Ô¹Ï and bring this information back to my own communities back home.ÌýÌý

ÌýThere are a lot of experiences that I would love to continue to share with you all about my life as a 91³Ô¹Ï student. I hope that this provided you with a brief and informative introduction on what’s to come from my blog posts. Please feel free to reach out to me via email: [email protected] or through future events and interactive information that we will be creating!
